In 2003, the Royal Oak Offshore T3 Limited Edition was launched to celebrate the release of the Hollywood thriller “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines”. Marketed as the brand’s main sports watch during the 2000s, it was powered by an automatic caliber 2226 and came in two dial variations: black and silver. Enthusiasts considered this limited edition model the spark that launched the collecting craze over the Royal Oak Offshore for the succeeding decades.

Established in 1875 by partners Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, Audemars Piguet is one of the last remaining watchmaking maisons operating under the original founders. The brand has created several technical innovations throughout their existence including the first minute-repeater wristwatch in 1892 and the first skeletonized pocketwatch in 1934. In 1972, Audemars Piguet introduced the Royal Oak designed by Gérald Genta, which was the most expensive stainless-steel luxury sports watch at the time. Since then, the brand has released other iconic models such as the record-breaking Royal Oak Self-Winding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, the world’s thinnest automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch.
