Introduced in 2010, the Portuguese Minute Repeater is a contemporary rendition of the early calibers produced by Florentine Ariosto Jones, the founder of the IWC that consists of a minute repeater complication that was made by at least 200 individual parts and encased in a fine platinum case. The example featured here was part of a limited issued of 500 pieces that was produced in only a single year.

The International Watch Company (IWC) was founded in 1868 by American businessman Florentine Ariosto Jones with the idea of combining American engineering concepts with Swiss craftsmanship. Since then, the brand has consistently innovated, beginning with their first pilot’s created in 1936 featuring an anti-magnetic balance and a rotating bezel to the first wristwatch to use a pocket watch movement, the Portuguese, in 1939. Their most complicated model, the Da Vinci Tourbillion Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, was designed by master horologist Kurt Klaus in 1985. Since 2000, the brand has been incorporated as a subsidiary of the Swiss conglomerate, the Richemont Group of Johann Rupert.
