From the 1970s to the late 1990s, slim ladies’ timepieces were in vogue and widely popularized by high-end jewelers like Piaget. Featured here is a perfect example from this design period highlighted by a black square dial with dot quarter markers within a textured broad bezel on its square case.

While better known as a high-end jeweler, Piaget has been a forerunner in watchmaking innovations. Established in 1874 by Georges Edouard Piaget, a Swiss watchmaker who set up a watchmaking factory in the area of La Côte-aux-Fées within Neuchatel, Switzerland, Piaget was later continued by his sons, Gérald and Valetin Piaget who kickstarted their foray in ultra-thin watchmaking. In 1960, the brand introduced the caliber 12P, considered at that time as the world’s slimmest mechanical movement. In 2018, the brand made history by launching the world’s thinnest wristwatch, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept with only a thickness of just 2mm, and was awarded the prestigious “Aiguille d’Or” watch prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève Awards in 2020.
