One of the symbols in the history of oceanography and watchmaking, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms has been one of the reliable timing instruments in the world of diving since its introduction in 1953. In 2017, Blancpain introduced this updated version featuring an all-round ceramic case featuring an unidirectional satin-brushed black ceramic bezel with ceramic insert and its hour indexes made out of zirconium alloy making quite resistant from environmental corrosion.

Blancpain was founded by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in the town of Villeret, Switzerland, and is considered to be the oldest surviving watchmaking brand since its establishment in 1735. In the 1950s, the brand introduced one of its iconic dive watches, the Fifty Fathoms, made famous on the wrist of oceanographer Jacques Cousteau and later, the standard issue watch for the United States Navy SEALS. Known as the brand that never made a quartz watch, Blancpain has carved a niche of luxury wristwatches with only high-end complications. Their watchmaking innovations include the creation of various in-house and exclusive movements which includes the Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel, the Tourbillon Carrousel, the Carrousel Répétition Minutes and the Tourbillon Volant Heure Sautante Minute Rétrograde.
